City Council approved an ambitious energy services agreement with Ameresco Tuesday night providing for improvements that will save the City of Knoxville millions of dollars while reducing its energy consumption and carbon emissions.

City Receives Highly Favorable Review from HUD
Last year the City of Knoxville’s Community Development Department and its partner agencies built, renovated or repaired more than 250 houses, provided down payment assistance to 15 first time homebuyers – many with young families – and obtained 18 blighted properties for redevelopment.
It also provided technical support to non-profit organizations, funded façade improvements that helped eight businesses in struggling commercial districts improve their appearance and helped the Mayor’s Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness find permanent housing for nearly 300 homeless individuals.

Let's Conserve Together - A Lighting Study
The City of Knoxville and three partnering organizations have turned Wall Avenue into a testing ground for new streetlights designed to improve the nighttime environment while reducing energy costs. The city, Knoxville Utilities Board, Tennessee Valley Authority and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) are collaborating on the project which began in late November after installation of 12 new LED lights was completed mostly along the north side of Wall.

Curbside Recycling Program Presented at City Council Workshop
After a year of study a City of Knoxville consultant presented a possible plan for establishing a city-wide, single-stream, curbside recycling program to City Council at its Wednesday workshop. DSM Environmental Services, contractor to The Climate Group, researched the issue as part of Knoxville’s 2008 selection as a “model city” for recycling by The Climate Group and the American Beverage Association.
