City Seeking Contractor for Solar Photovoltaic Array
The City of Knoxville is seeking a contractor to design, install, and finance a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) array, ideally on the roof of the Knoxville Convention Center. The City allocated $250,000 of Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant funding towards this project and is seeking a firm that can leverage those funds by taking advantage of tax credits and other financial incentives, so that the solar array can be much larger than one directly financed by the City.

Mayor Haslam speaks at the Budget Retreat
Mayor Bill Haslam said Tuesday that the city has continued to maintain a steady financial performance despite a weak economy and should finish the 2010 Fiscal Year in the black. “This year it looks like we’ll still finish on budget,” Haslam told City Council even though the city’s revenues are down for a second straight year.

Knoxville's Mardi Growl Set for Feb. 13
Knoxville's Mardi GrowlBe a part of the third annual Knoxville's Mardi Growl on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Downtown Knoxville. Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. at the corner of Summit Hill Drive and Central Avenue and ends at Market Square with festivities and pet-related booths on the square. Proceeds from the event benefit Young-Williams Animal Center!

Dogs on Patios Permit Now Available
The City of Knoxville issued its first permit for a restaurant seeking to let customers bring their pet dogs into its outdoor seating area. The French Market, a restaurant on Gay Street, received the initial permit under the new ordinance passed by City Council in December.

City Awarded Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant
In September 2009, the City of Knoxville was awarded $2,012,700 in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The EECBG grant is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds the city received, and is commonly referred to as federal stimulus money.
