KPD Announces Labor Day Weekend Traffic Enforcement Plans

Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen announced traffic enforcement plans for the Labor Day holiday weekend. The specialized traffic enforcement effort will being 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010, and conclude at Midnight on Monday, September 6, 2010.

Ribbon Cutting Unveils "Green" Renovations at Valley Oaks
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Valley Oaks Apts. On Tuesday, Mayor Bill Haslam, Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale, Knoxville's Community Development Corporation (KCDC) CEO Alvin Nance, KCDC Board Members, and other representatives opened the $1.8 million "green" renovation project at Valley Oaks Apartments with an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Check Presentation Ceremony at Victor Ashe Park Sept. 7
The public is invited to be a part of a check presentation ceremony on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Victor Ashe Park on 4901 Bradshaw Rd. Former Ambassador Victor Ashe will present a check to the City of Knoxville for $50,000 to go toward the purchase of a five-acre property that will be added to Victor Ashe Park.

Sept. 11th Remembrance Ceremony
911 Observance A special ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 11 as an observance of the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. The ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m. on the City County Building lawn. More details about the ceremony will be posted here.

City Director of Special Events Retiring
Mickey MalloneeMickey Mallonee, the City of Knoxville's longtime Director of Special Events will be retiring on December 31. Mallonee's office works with individuals and organizations that sponsor the 400 to 500 festivals, parades, picnics, concerts, road races and other events held each year on city-owned property and streets. She has been the special events director since 2000.

City Offices Closed Labor Day
City of Knoxville offices will be closed on Monday, September 6 for the Labor Day holiday. Waste Connections, the city's household garbage collector, will pick up garbage on their normal schedule, Monday, September 6th, Labor Day.

Parking for U.T. Football Games
Parking for U.T. Football GamesThe City of Knoxville will offer free game day parking at two of its downtown garages again this fall during the University of Tennessee's football season. This marks the third year that free parking will be available at the city's Market Square and State Street Garages. Fans can also park for free at the surface lot on State Street and at the Promenade Garage on State Street. Other city-owned garages, all of which are managed by the Public Building Authority, will still feature pay parking on game days.

Enjoy Boomsday Sunday, Sept. 5
Boomsday 2010Boomsday is the largest Labor Day fireworks show in the nation! The 23rd anniversary of the Boomsday Festival will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2010 1 p.m. - 10 p.m along the downtown riverfront at Volunteer Landing and Neyland Drive. Fireworks Start 9:30 PM.

Parking for Boomsday Celebration
The City of Knoxville will offer free parking for Boomsday in its Market Square and State Street Parking Garages and Blackstock Avenue parking lot this Sunday. Three other publicly-owned parking lots in downtown, the Promenade Parking Garage, the State Street surface parking lot, and the Poplar Street Parking Lot will also offer free parking for Boomsday.
