BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

In case of a death in a permanent employee's immediate family, the employee shall be given time off with pay to attend the funeral. Such time shall not be charged to either his/her sick or vacation leave in accordance with the following:

A. three (3) days should interment be within a 400 mile radius;

B. five (5) days should interment be beyond a 400 mile radius;

C. immediate family is defined to include the following: wife, husband, parents, brother, sister, children, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, great grandparents, step-mother, step-father, step-children, legal guardian; the Mayor has the authority to expand the scope of immediate family in addition to the aforementioned.

D. In addition to the above bereavement leave provisions, a permanent employee shall be authorized to use up to ten (10) working days of accrued sick leave in the case of the death of a parent, child or spouse. In such a case, a copy of the death certificate may be required.

E. Temporary employees are not eligible for bereavement leave.
