Types of Fare Passes
     
 
 



KAT's fares increased in January 2009, and along with this increase, KAT installed new fareboxes that allow a variety of different fare options.
Listed below are the different fare options that are available--if you need help deciding which option best for you, you can contact one of our Transit Agents at 637-3000.

NOTE: For each fare two prices are listed (ex: $1.50/.75). The first price listed for each option is the regular adult price. The second price listed is the cost (with proper ID) for seniors, disabled individuals and students (SDS).
 


Fares/Passes for Regular KAT Routes

ONE-RIDE
$1.50/ .75 (SDS)
Transfers .50/.25
  • Good for a single one-way trip on any regular, fixed KAT route (transfer not included).
  • Exact change no longer required; you will receive a printed "change card" good toward your next fare purchase.
  • One-Ride tickets can be purchased on the bus, at KAT's main offices, or by using the online mail-order form.
  • Can be used on Express routes, with an additional 50 cents (or a change card good for at least 50 cents) in the farebox.
 
ONE-DAY PASS $4.00/ $2.00 (SDS) Transfers included
  • Good for unlimited rides, including transfers, from the first time you use it until the end of the service day.
  • One-Day passes purchased on the bus MUST be used that day; you can purchase one-day passes for later use at KAT's main offices or by using the online mail-order form.
  • Can be used on Express routes, with an additional 50 cents (or a change card good for at least 50 cents) in the farebox.
SEVEN-DAY PASS $15.00/ $7.50 (SDS) Transfers included
  • Good for unlimited rides, including transfers, for 7 consecutive days beginning with the first use.
  • Cannot be purchased on buses; Seven-day passes are available at KAT's main offices, First Tennessee Bank downtown or by using the online mail-order form.
  • Can be used on Express routes, with an additional 50 cents (or a 50 cent change card) in the farebox.
 
30-DAY PASS $50/ $25 (SDS) Transfers included
  • Good for unlimited rides, including transfers, for 30 consecutive days beginning with the first use.
  • Cannot be purchased on buses; 30-day passes are available at KAT's main offices, First Tennessee Bank downtown or by using the online mail-order form.
  • Can be used on Express routes, with an additional 50 cents (or a 50 cent change card) in the farebox.
UT SEMESTER PASS $50 Transfers included
  • Good for unlimited rides, including transfers, for the semester indicated on the pass.
  • You must have a valid UT I.D. in order to purchase a semester pass, and you may be asked to show your UT I.D. when using this pass.
  • Semester passes can be purchased at KAT's main offices, the UT Central Ticket Office or by using the online mail-order form.
  • UT Semester passes cannot be used on Express routes, effective January 20, 2009.
SENIORS FREEDOM    
  • This program still allows those age 65 or over to ride fare-free on any regular KAT route. You must present either an ID (driver's license or state identification card) AND your Medicare card, OR a KAT Seniors Freedom ID card.
  • Seniors (with the above listed I.D.) can also ride an Express route with an additional 50 cents in the farebox.

Fares/Passes for Express Routes

Express One-Way Cash Fare/Pass $2.00/ $1.00 (SDS) Transfers .50/.25
  • Good for a single one-way trip on any Express route--100X, 101X, 102X
  • Exact change not required for cash fare; you will receive a printed "change card" good toward your next fare purchase.
  • Passes can be purchased when boarding an Express bus, at KAT's main offices or by using the online mail-order form.
Express 20-Ride Pass $35/ $17.50 (SDS) Transfers .50/.25
  • Good for 20 one-way trips on any Express route (100X, 101X, 102X)
  • Note that these passes are good for 20 Rides, not 20 days. This allows flexibility for the Express rider who does not use the bus every work day.
  • 20-ride passes can be purchased at KAT's main offices, First Tennessee Bank downtown, the UT Central Ticket Office or by using the online mail-order form.

Additional Information
  • Change cards are not redeemable for cash
  • Transfers can also be used on Express Routes with an additional 50 cents in the farebox.
  • Route 50C: Off-Campus Housing is now fare-free with valid UT I.D.
