Two Officers Honored For Investigation Into Robbery of Pizza Delivery Employees
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Officer Justin Ruth and Officer Jeff Damewood the January Officers of the Month for the Knoxville Police Department. Officer Ruth has been with KPD since December 2002 while Officer Damewood has been with the department since January 1997.

KPD to target school bus stop sign violators
Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen announced a special traffic enforcement effort to address growing problems of motorists who fail to stop for school buses. The special enforcement effort will be utilized throughout the city.

KPD Receives Accreditation from CALEA
The Knoxville Police Department has been accredited for the sixth time by the foremost accrediting body for law enforcement agencies. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., or CALEA, also recognized the KPD as being one of its “Flagship agencies,” because of its demonstrated excellence. The Flagship agencies provide other law enforcement departments with guidance and best practices for issues related to obtaining and maintaining accreditation.

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Todd Gilreath and James Burrell the September Officers of the Month for the Knoxville Police Department. Investigator Gilreath has been with the department since January 1994. Investigator Burrell has been with KPD since December 1998.

Arrest of Vehicle Burglary Suspects Earns Special Award for Three Officers
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Officer Timothy Thornton, Officer Brian Bell and Officer Preston Whillock as the July Officers of the Month. All three officers have been with the department since June 2006. Officer Whillock was previously an Officer of the Month and Life Saving Award recipient in 2007.
