INSPECTIONS UNIT

Lt. Donna Clift
800 Howard Baker Jr. Ave
Knoxville, TN 37915
865-215-7000
dclift@cityofknoxville.org

The Inspections Unit is responsible for enforcing all city and state laws and regulations pertaining to alcoholic beverages and vehicles for hire. Part of this responsibility is preparing a report for the Knoxville City Beer Board for presentment at each Beer Board meeting. This report outlines any criminal or traffic offenses a beer permit applicant may have had in the past. To insure those businesses that possess a city beer permit are operating within the law, officers of the Inspections Unit conduct numerous bar checks and periodically conduct underage beer stings targeting sales to minors. The Unit also coordinates the Tennessee Alcohol Server Knowledge Class (TASK). This class is held on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Safety Building. Call (865) 215-7252 for more information on the class.

The Inspections Unit is responsible for the inspection of vehicles for hire such as taxis, limos, and shuttle buses. In addition, anyone who wishes to drive a vehicle in this category must come to the Inspections Unit and apply for a driver’s permit. All services are by appointment only. Appointments are secured by calling 865-215-7379.

In addition to regulating alcoholic beverages and vehicles for hire, the unit also monitors the wrecker companies that are on rotation for the City of Knoxville. The following companies are on the rotation list at present: Clinton Hwy Wrecker, Dan’s Advantage Towing, Floyd’s Wrecker, Jim’s Wrecker, and Sam’s Automotive.

The Inspections Unit is presently staffed by: Officers Donny Huskey, Todd Greene and Christina Freels and one office assistant, Mary Lewis. Members of the Inspections Unit can be reached at 865-215-7379
