Young-Williams Animal Center
The Young-Williams Animal Center is located at at 3201 Division Street,
just off Sutherland Ave near the John Tarleton Home. For detailed

The center is open Monday - Friday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.
- 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
The fee to adopt a pet from the Young - Williams Animal Center ranges
from $75 to $150, depending on the animal's age, how long he or she
has been at our shelter, etc. If you adopt two pets of the same type
(dog, puppy, cat, kitten) from the Center within 30 days, the second
animal is $30 less and the third animal is $40 less. "Best Buddies",
pets who must be adopted together, are adopted for the regular adoption
fee of one of the pets plus $25. Non-traditional pets (such as rabbits,
ferrets, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc.) are available at various adoption
fees. Please call the Center at 865-215-6599 for more information
about our adoption fees. The adoption fee includes a spay or neuter,
shots (except for rabies vaccine, which you must get at your own vet),
a heartworm test for dogs and a feline leukemia test for cats, check
and treatment for intestinal parasites, application of flea control,
a microchip, and an exam by our Animal Center veterinarian. The Animal
Center accepts cash, checks, money orders, credit cards, and debit
cards.
Center Services Include:
Take in stray, nuisance, and surrendered animals.
Provide humane treatment of animals while in our custody.
Identify and return lost pets.
Conduct progressive adoption program with spay/neuter and microchip
included in the fee.
Quarantine bite animals for rabies observation.
Provide humane education and pet-care information to the community
and schools.
Provide services to the citizens of Knoxville and Knox County
while enforcing Tennessee state laws and local ordinances related
to animals.
Humanely euthanize homeless, unwanted, sick, and injured animals.

City Animal Code
The owners of all dogs and cats in the city shall have such animals
vaccinated as well as licensed and registered. Licenses shall be issued
in the name of the city for dogs and cats by the unit at its designated
office or at the animal shelter, or by any veterinarian in the county.
Upon payment of the requisite license fee, an owner shall be issued
a license tag to be worn by the animal and a certificate of registration.
The actual registration of the animal shall be done by the administrator
or the authorized unit representative or by a veterinarian practicing
in the county. Such registration shall be accomplished upon printed
forms provided for such purpose and shall record the owner's name
and address and the name, breed, color and sex of the dog or cat.
No dog or cat shall be licensed or registered unless it is first vaccinated
against rabies. The vaccination shall be done under the supervision
of a veterinarian. The owners of all dogs and cats in the city shall
have such animals vaccinated if over three (3) months of age and licensed
if over six (6) months of age. Vaccination and licensing of dogs and
cats shall be done before or within thirty (30) days after a dog or
cat reaches the age specified in the preceding sentence, and annually
thereafter. Dog and cat licenses shall be issued by the unit or by
veterinarians practicing in the county upon payment of a license fee
of fifteen dollars ($15.00) for each unaltered male or female dog
or cat and five dollars ($5.00) for each sterilized male or female
dog or cat. Certification of sterilization, identifying the animal,
must be presented at the time the license fee is paid.
