April 30, 2009 - Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Cameron Paidousis the 2008 Explorer of the Year for the Knoxville Police Department. Paidousis has been with the Explorer Post since July 2005. In March 2008 he was appointed the Lieutenant and leader of the post.

Chief Owen, Explorer Paidousis, Mayor HaslamChief Owen said, “In his time as Post Leader, Cameron has done a remarkable job of taking the initiative and responsibility to remain in contact with other members of the post and keeping them up to date on activities while filling assignments. He has even performed these duties while out of town on vacation and without being asked.”

In 2008, Cameron donated 376 hours to the Knoxville Police Department and the community. This only counts the actual ‘at work’ time and does not include the numerous hours he has worked from home. Cameron also worked 70 of the 102 activities that the post participated in during 2008.

In addition to working normal explorer activities, Cameron volunteers with the department’s Search and Recovery Team (SAR) where he has attended training and assisted on actual SAR operations. Cameron was also the first explorer to be trained as a boating officer where he works along side the sworn officers on the Marine Unit.

Chief Owen said, “Cameron is always accessible to the advisors and carries out all duties assigned to him with greater than expected results. He consistently sets a good example for the other explorers.”

Mayor Haslam said, “We commend Cameron for his outstanding performance in his leadership and his continued dedication to the Knoxville Police Department and the citizens they serve.”
