Adult Drawing (Two sessions)
Tuesday, August 17-Sept. 21 & Nov. 9-Dec. 14

Instructor: Susie Holt
Students will focus on mark making by using line. With pencil and charcoal, students will do thumbnail sketches, contour drawing, gesture drawing, value, scale and shadowing. This six-week class is both for the beginner and intermediate student who has had some drawing ex perience. All materials are provided.

Adult Watercolor
Tuesday , Sept. 28-Nov. 2
10:00 a.m.-12:00 , $ 90 .00
Instructor: Susie Holt
An adult approach to basic glazing with color, modeling form with color, and creatively learning basic design composition will be covered. Primary colors will be used to learn principles of mixing colors. A painting should be completed by the end of this six- week session. Students should purchase their own basic set of brushes.

Adult Oil Painting Two sessions
Monday, Sept. 13-Oct. 18 & Monday, Oct. 25-Nov. 29
6:00-8:00 p.m., $125.00
Instructor: Mark Smothers
This six-week course will be an introduction to oil painting, using traditional and contemporary styles. Students will learn to layer and create new colors. A 12” X 16” painting should be completed by the end of the session. All materials and use of brushes and canvas are included. Students should bring a picture from a magazine or photo for the first class for their subject matter

 

Pastel Portraiture Class ( Two sessions)
Thurs., Sept. 9-Oct. 14 & Thurs. Oct. 21-Dec. 2 (No class Nov. 25).

Designed for the beginner to intermediate student with some drawing experience. Take your portraits to the next level with the introduction to Pastel Portraiture. Pastels (sticks of pure pigment) have been used for centuries by the Great Masters of Art to contemporary artists of today. From start to finish, students will learn how to take pictures and turn them into cherished works of art. Color theory, composition, reviews of contemporary and classical portraits will all be covered in this class. A finished portrait should be finished by the end of the course. Pastels and archival velour paper will be provided as well as most materials; any materials not provided will be available from instructor at cost.

Painted Antique Windows (two classes)

During this three-week class students will use acrylic paint to design and paint an antique glass window. A complimentary border design will also be painted on the wood frame to compliment the fall theme. Join the fun in creating a new fall decoration for your home. A 20 X 27 inch window frames and all supplies will be provided. (Sample on display at the center).

You no longer need to be intimidated by a blank canvas! Discover how to take your favorite photo of a subject or scene and turn it into a work of art. Beginning and intermediate students will learn everything from the basics of drawing and composition to painting technique styles. Expect not only to finish a completed painting, but to have fun in the learning process. A 12” X 16” canvas, use of brushes and acrylic paints are included.

Knit and Purl
Monday, October 18-November 8

Join us to learn the simple stitches needed to create any knitted garment. It all begins with knit and purl. Cast on your favorite color of yarn, loop it through the needles and before long you have your first potholder, then scarf, then sweater or mittens. You will be introduced to casting on and off, learning the knit and purl stitches, ribbing, increasing and decreasing, creating textured patterns and changing colors . All levels encouraged. Bring size 8 (US) bamboo knitting needles, a skein or two of Lamb’s Pride 100% wool yarn, (pre-ferably from Loopville in Homburg), a not e- book, patience & a mug for your favorite tea!

Batik Classes

Batik is an ancient Asian art form of wax resist on fabric. Using the traditional Indonesian Tjanting wax pens and beeswax, students will create four individual 22” X 22” cotton cloth napkins in a variety of colors and designs. These beautiful napkins will accent your table reflecting your own personal style. For students wanting to design a set of eight napkins there will be an additional charge of $40.00.

Designed for the intermediate student only. This class will emphasize more advanced throwing skills on the potter’s wheel. Functional forms such as pitchers, lidded pieces, and larger forms will be taught. Glazing, texture and decorating techniques will also be covered. Class includes up to 50 pounds of clay, use of tools and glazing and firing. (For students who purchase additional clay from the instructor, there is a $ 45 .00 fee per 25 pound bag to cover materials and firing fees).

Pottery: Beginning & Intermediate Wheel Throwing Session I

Glazes at Cone 6 ( 6 weeks)

Get more control of your glazes by understanding what is in them and by learning to fire an electric kiln for specific surface effects. This class is designed for the intermediate to advanced student, who is setting up his / her own studio, and for the studio potter. Through discussion and testing of glazes, students will learn about components of glazes and how they affect color and surface quality. Fee includes instruction, materials, firing and use of tools.

Precious Metal Clay (Silver Jewelry)
Saturday, July 17
9:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m., $90.00
Instructor: Kathy King
Precious metal clay (PMC), is a putty-like mix of silver powder, water, and binder that makes it possible for students to make real metal jewelry in a matter of hours. It can be molded and worked to make all kinds of jewelry, then dried and fired, when the water and binder are driven off to leave a pure 99.9% silver piece. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated to include how to make pendants, earrings etc. You will only be limited by your imagination.

Glass Fusing Workshop Two classes
Saturday, May 15 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or
Saturday, July 31 9:00-12:30 p.m., $90.00
Instructor: Kathy King
During this one-day workshop, students will learn the basics of glass fusing. Students will make pendants and earrings using dichroic glass. They will learn how to cut, stack and glue their designs prior to firing. Following the firing, pieces will be mailed to the students within the week. The materials fee includes supplies to produce three or four pieces. Additional glass may be purchased from the instructor.

Elegant Seed Bead Bracelet

The biggest challenge you’ll face in this class is choosing what bead colors to use in your bracelets! Susan will show you the basics needed to construct several elegant and easy bracelets. Each versatile project can be completed in a few hours. Once you master the basic techniques, you will only be limited by your choice of beads and supply of friends and family in which to gift these beautiful items. Requirements for this class include good eyesight (or reading glasses), manual dexterity and an appreciation for fine handwork.

Beginning Russian Punch needle
Saturday, October 16
9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., $40.00

Learn the basics of creating beautiful miniature rugs using the technique of Russian Punch needle. Students will learn what tools and supplies can be used in this versatile craft, how to transfer designs to the backing fabric, how to perform the basic punching stitch, how to blend threads for a more sophisticated look, and how to finish the stitchery. All materials are included to complete the project, including a high-quality Cameo brand punch needle.

Painted Acrylic Floorcloths
Tuesday, July 6-27 (four-weeks)

Learn to transform a 2 X 4 floorcloth into a bright, colorful, decorative and functional home accessory. Techniques include stenciling, sponging, hard edge strips and freehand painting. Finished pieces will be sealed with tsatin polyurethane for easy cleaning.

Photography, Nature and Wildlife
Tuesday, September 14-October 5 (5 weeks)

Instructor: Clay Thurston
If you understand the basics of how your camera works, then maybe it’s time to apply it to taking more serious photographs. Some of the class topics will include: close up photography, camera settings, use of blinds, types of lenses and much more. A digital or film SLR and a tripod will be needed. We will discuss tripods in the first class, so if you don’t have one yet that ok.

Beginner & Intermediate Pottery I
Thursday, Sept. 2-October 21 (8 weeks)

Tapestry Weaving
Tuesday, August 3-24 (4 weeks)
5:30-8:00 p.m., $125.00
Instructor: Nancy Roberson
Using a 12” X 12” frame, cotton warp and embroidery floss, students will create and indivisually design hand woven tapestry. Tapestry techniques covered will include: pick and pick, slit tapestry, twining, weft interlocks, making cartoons plus other skills. Students must bring an assembled 12” X 12” wood frame to weave their design.

Elegant Seed Bead Bracelet

Sculpture and Tile Design Session 1&2

Learn sculpture techniques while making a variety of objects such as handmade tiles, masks, pots, boxes, vases and more. Demonstration and personalized instruction allow all skill levels to work at their own pace and develop their own style. All pieces will be fired to 06. Surface enrichment techniques will be taught. Class includes 25 lbs. of clay, instruction, use of tools and firing fees.

Stained Glass Panels
Saturday, August 14-September 4

Join the revival of stained glass! Whether you are a beginner or need a class to focus on the art, this informative class is for you. Students will meet for four weeks and should have a beautiful finished piece of art at the end of the course. Students are responsible for purchasing their own glass and metal. Students will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9th prior to class beginning to choose their patterns from the instructor prior to purchasing their glass. session. All tools, work boards, and patterns are included.
