Baxter Ave. exit Get Directions to 1033 Elm Street What is a Transfer Station? Individuals and businesses can dispose of a wide variety of solid waste materials at the transfer station. All vehicles are required to separate recyclables, tires, building materials, construction/ demolition debris, and any other material as directed by the attendant and unload them in appropriate areas of the facility. Materials not accepted include: Loose asbestos, asphalt, commercial hazardous waste, contaminated soil, dead animals, hot ashes, medical waste, sludge, railroad ties, yard waste and large amounts of rock, brick, concrete, or dirt. You may bring up to two wheel barrels full of rock, brick, concrete, or dirt only. Any more than that amount cannot be accepted since it will damage the machinery we use to process materials. Yard waste may be disposed of at Shamrock Organic Products 865-524-0109 located at 2501 Ailor Avenue or, the Chestnut Ridge Landfill 865-457-7810 or the Popular View Landfill 865-525-7720. Household Hazardous Waste: Both Knoxville and Knox County residents may use the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, HHW Facility, free of charge. Rules/Regulations: The City reserves the right to refuse any materials. All vehicles must be able to unload in 30 minutes or less. No material may be removed from the SWMF without the attendant's permission. Hours and Directions: The Solid Waste Management Facility is located at 1033 Elm Street. Hours of operation are as follows: The HHW Collection Center will be open Mondays starting on July 6 Transfer Station and Household Hazardous Waste Sun: Closed Mon - Tue - Thur - Fri: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Wed: 7:00 am - 12 Noon Sat: 8:00 am - 12 Noon (*Amnesty Sat. until 1:00 pm) Fee Structure: Garbage and Building Materials- $25 per ton or $.50 per bag Cash or Check only. Construction & Demolition Debris - $25 per ton HHW and recycling - No Charge * Amnesty Saturday - The first Saturday of each month, unless specified during a holiday, City residents only may dispose of garbage and construction demolition debris free of charge. Due to high volumes, no commercial vehicles and no vehicles from outside of Knox County can be accepted on Amnesty Saturday.
